On August 8th, 2023 a catastrophic fire destroyed much of the town of Lahaina in Maui. The fire has resulted in a massive loss of life, housing, and power for the residents of the town and neighboring communities. Currently, more than 1500 community members are residing at emergency shelters, unsure what their future holds.
At SunPower, we believe in doing the right thing, and and supporting the communities our employees and customers live in during their times of need. This campaign will help us come together to "Build Back Maui". Your donations to the campaign will be evenly split between the two organizations selected, and will be matched by SunPower up to a maximum of $1,500 in donations per employee per year.
The Footprint Project, a previous SunPower Foundation grantee, the organization is deploying solar microgrids throughout Maui that will support community charging hubs, lighting, Wi-Fi communications, shelters, refrigeration, lighting and other critical energy needs. With each $2,500 donation, and with SunPower’s matching, we can support the deployment and installation of one 28kWh/10 kW solar microgrid. SunPower dealer Rising Sun is already involved in the efforts to deploy these microgrids.
The Red Cross is implementing emergency shelters, meals and other items to the residents of the island. Your donations will go directly to support their efforts.
